Kara and Coca Cola Beverages Company launches pet bottles collection & recycling project in Imara Daima Estate

Kara and Coca-Cola Beverages Africa – Kenya launched plastics collection project at Imara Daima Estate as part of promoting sustainable waste management in neighborhoods. The initiative focuses promoting waste segregation and recycling in selected neighborhoods with the expectation of being up-scaled across Kenya. Through the partnership, Coca-Cola has issued plastic collection cages, free of charge, which have been distributed in 8 Courts within the estate. Coca Cola also issued 1000 reusable sacks to every household in the entire estate to be used for collection of the plastic bottles in the homes for later delivery to the cages.
During the launch, Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Director for Public Affairs, Communications & Sustainability Mr. John Mwendwa, and the Imara Daima Residents Association’s Secretary General, Mr. Job Mwangi, signed a deal with a local waste service provider to offtake the plastics for recycling. The project will enable residents to recycle PET plastic bottles, and create an additional revenue stream for the Residents Association to run its activities.
Imara Daima Estate was selected as the flagship project owing to its exceptional environmental accomplishments, including winning the Mazingira Award at the 2023 Annual Resident Associations Excellence Awards.
The initiative signals a significant move toward instilling sustainable waste management practices within residential estates.
