KARA and Kenya Power conduct residents’ dialogue forum in Mombasa to enhance customer experience on service delivery

KARA in partnership with Kenya Power Lighting Company (KPLC) conducted a residents’ dialogue forum on 28th June 2024 at Royal Court Hotel, Mombasa. The forum is part of a series of activities being jointly implemented by KARA and Kenya Power to facilitate interaction on service delivery issues. The event was attended by over 130 residents from various associations and special interest groups. The event provided a platform for KPLC officials to engage with customers to understand their needs and expectations and share information on service delivery initiatives and plans including the ongoing Update Token Meter Yako exercise.

Speaking at the forum, KPLC Regional Manager for Coast, Eng. Phineas Marete, highlighted the importance of partnering with key stakeholders to improve power supply reliability. He also mentioned about the introduction of smart meters to SME customers, with plans to make them available to domestic customers. Eng. Marete emphasised the adoption of electric energy-efficient cooking appliances and energy-saving bulbs to reduce power consumption in homes, along with implementing safety measures to prevent accidents. In addition, he informed participants about the \”Update Token Meter Yako\” campaign and its significance, explaining the steps involved.

KARA CEO Henry Ochieng encouraged the residents to work with Kenya Power to co-create solutions to the challenges they face. He added that the partnership with Kenya Power is a boost to the Alliance’s efforts of finding solutions to power service delivery challenges faced by its members.

In attendance at the event were KARA Vice Chairperson, Dr. Esther Getambu, KPLC\’s Acting County Business Manager Mombasa, Eng. Steve Okumu and Safety Engineer Coast Region, Yabicha Oche.

The forum ended with a plenary session where the residents interacted directly with KPLC Customer Experience representatives and got immediate feedback to their concerns and challenges.
