Eng. Patrick Obath elected as the Chairman of the Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations (KARA)

Nairobi, Kenya – 27th April 2026

The Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations (KARA) is pleased to announce that the KARA Governing Council has elected Eng. Patrick Obath as the new Chairman of KARA. This follows the recent election of Eng. Obath to the Governing Council during the KARA Annual General Meeting.

Eng. Obath’s election marks a significant milestone for KARA as it continues to strengthen its role as a leading voice for residents and communities across Kenya. He brings to the position a wealth of experience in community leadership, governance, and advocacy, having served diligently in community leadership and advocacy including serving on the Board of the Runda Residents Association for five years, including as Chairman, and as Chairman of the Medina Palms Residents Association for four years. He has also served in various private and public sector entities

In his new role, Eng. Obath will provide strategic leadership to the organization, championing key priorities including structured engagement of resident associations in decision making, sustainable urban development and effective public participation.

Speaking after his election, Eng. Obath expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him by the Governing Council and by extension KARA members. He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership and impactful engagement. “

“Having been actively involved in community leadership as well as private and public sector, I have a strong appreciation of the role that well-organised resident associations can play in shaping sustainable, secure, and well-governed communities. I will work with my colleagues in the Governing Council and members of KARA to enhance the impact of resident associations.” he said.  

KARA congratulates Eng. Obath on his election and looks forward to his leadership in advancing the Association’s mission of empowering residents and promoting responsive urban governance.

The Association also extends its appreciation to the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Richard Nyaga for his dedicated service and contribution to the growth and impact of KARA.
