Kara has partnered with UN Habitat to promote effective local community & neighborhood associations’ involvement in the Go-Blue initiative at the coast.

Under the partnership, Kara will oversee implementation of various activities including: supporting development of Hola Local Physical & Land-Use Development Plan; Supporting development of Kilifi Neighbourhood Regeneration Plan; Conducting capacity building sessions for local county officials and neighbourhood associations focusing on implementation of the land-sea planning framework and guidelines; Supporting establishment of a citizen engagement digital platform for Mombasa City and Kilifi Municipality to enhance active participation and involvement of neighbourhood associations and local communities in the implementation of urban development plans; Supporting improvement of two public spaces in Mombasa and Kilifi.

The two years partnership falls within the wider Go Blue Programme Result Area 2 on the theme: Connecting People, Cities and the Ocean: Innovative Land-Sea Planning and Management for a Sustainable and Resilient Kenyan Coast being implemented by UN-Habitat and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).  The aim of the programme is to support the development of a sustainable blue economy in Kenya by contributing to the economic development for coastal urban citizens and the protection of coastal and marine assets.
