The Rotary Club of Lavington Eco in partnership with the Rotaract Club of Eco Warriors, UN Environment Programme (UNEP), hosted a first of its kind Eco Festival in Kenya on 3rd to 5th June 2022 at the Nairobi Arboretum.

 

The festival was dedicated to promoting environmental conservation, sustainable actions and green culture that will promote positive environmental change. On the first day of the festival, Rotary hosted a cocktail for various stakeholders in the environment sector to network and deliberate on both the status and the future of our environment. Participants got a chance to network and discuss on the plastic pollution problem facing the country.

Kara Governing Council Member Dr. Peter Herrmann was among the Keynote Speakers at the Panel Conversation on the topic: Plastics: From Pollution to Solution. Dr. Herrmann shared insights on some of KARA initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable waste management practices at the household level. Other speakers who addressed the forum were Prof. James Njiru (Kenya Marine Research Institute); Mr. Duncan Miheso (Nairobi Metropolitan Services); Emily Waita (Coca Cola); Mary Ngechu (Plast Packaging Ltd) and Joyce Gachugi (PETCO).

The event also had fun-filled eco-themed activities at the Nairobi Arboretum which included; Art in the Park, Yoga in the park, Nature Walk, Music Extravaganza & Concert, and Eco Champions Exhibition.
