Plans are underway to develop a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Nairobi in order to improve the quality of public transport provision and enhance social mobility of those that live and work in the City.

The proposed BRT system will serve the A104 corridor from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to James Gichuru Road and a feasibility study and business plan is currently being undertaken.

It is essential for the successful design and development of BRT system that various stakeholders in the project influence areas are engaged through an inclusive consultation process in discussing both the concept of BRT and the anticipated challenges that may be faced in introducing the system in Nairobi.  Kara has therefore partnered with the lead project consultants, Integrated Transport Planning Limited (ITP), to create awareness about the concept of the BRT and obtain stakeholders views on their expectations and probable challenges that the system may face. Stakeholders’ forums will be held in South B, Embakasi, Syokimau, Kangemi and Loresho areas.
