• Governance & Advocacy:
KARA applies informed advocacy to address the concerns of its members and improve access to service delivery. We are also spearheading representation of resident associations in order to have their membership become more informed, educated and remain proactive on issues that are important to the development of their local communities.
We strongly believe that entrenchment of good governance is key to improving service delivery. This aspect is applied strongly in different sectors such as environment, water, security, taxation, among others.

• Training and Education:
KARA provides training, education and resource materials in the areas of the Alliance’s development, operations, leadership and advocacy. Training programs tailored to develop the capacities of the Governing Council and the Secretariat is catered for.

• Conflict Resolution:
In the area of problem solving, KARA facilitates conflict resolutions for its members as part of an organization plan to promote meaningful co-existence as well as non-confrontational neighborhoods. KARA applies mutual gains approach at resolving conflicts within resident associations as well as between elected leaders and the resident associations’ leadership.

• Environmental Management:
KARA promotes environment-friendly policies and practices among its' members. We seek the involvement of the youth, residents and corporate organizations with focus on clean, sustainable and livable environment. KARA has for instance, jointly with her partners, presented a strong petition to National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to stop destruction of wetlands and other environmentally fragile areas. We have also halted through a court process, further excision of forests in the Rift Valley province. This follows the realization that the present country forest cover is a paltry 2.5% as opposed to the recommended UN rate of 10%. Other interventions on environment are continually being addressed.

• Communications and Public Relations:
KARA communicates her mission, vision and goals to her members, sponsors, partners and the greater public. To date, KARA runs a weekly e-Newsletter whose growing subscription of key contacts, in Kenya and other parts of the world, is now topping 12,000.
The Alliance also publishes a hard copy bi-monthly journal “Neighbourhood Kenya” which is distributed to our members, partners, government institutions, universities among others, across the country. Seven editions of the journal have so far been published.
Institutional Arrangements
KARA works closely with other lobby groups, funding agencies, corporate organizations, community based organizations, research institutions, environmental groups, local authorities and professional organizations that support her objectives. Under these arrangements, emphasis is placed on synergies and joint efforts required to produce significant changes for the Alliance’s members.
