Current Kenya statistics show that 78% of COVID-19 infected persons are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic and can be managed at home. Given the spiking numbers of infected persons and in anticipation of a surge in the COVID-19 cases, the Government has introduced Home Based Isolation and Care (HBIC) for asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic patients to ease the growing pressure on hospitals. 

Guidelines for the HBIC have been developed to facilitate effective management of the initiative. One component that is important for the success of the initiative is community participation and monitoring. The Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations (KARA) has organized a virtual forum on Understanding Home Based Isolation and Care and the Role of Community Groups in Kenya. The forum will enable participants to understand more about the HBIC guidelines as well as the roles and responsibilities of individuals, households and communities in making the initiative a success.
