Kara has partnered with UN-Habitat, Japan’s Ministry of Environment, Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) and the Kenya Association of Waste Recyclers (KAWR) to roll out activities aimed supporting COVID 19 mitigation efforts in Dandora dumpsite.

The activities include establishing permanent hand washing facilities in strategic parts of the site; distributing face masks and hand gloves to waste pickers; carrying out risk assessment on current waste picking activities. As part of the initiative, face masks and hand gloves were distributed to waste pickers at the dumpsite in order to minimize their exposure to COVID 19 risks. The event was attended by representatives from Kara, UN Habitat, NMS and KAWR. Other activities are on course and will be completed within the first quarter of the year.
