The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director General, Major General Mohamed Badi has committed to work with Resident Associations on service delivery issues in a streamlined and structured way.

Speaking at a virtual forum hosted by Kara, the DG said that he understands the importance of involving Resident Association in various decision making processes and urged the Associations to engage NMS through Kara to ensure better coordination of the working relation. “While we would like to work with Resident Association on matters of service delivery, it is not possible to attend them individually. We therefore urge Resident Associations to engage us through Kara so that we can have a more structured and coordinated collaboration” he said.

The virtual forum was organized by Kara to reflect on NMS milestones, challenges and plans since its formation and discuss effective mechanism of engagement between NMS and Resident Associations. The DG pointed out some of the plans in place to ensure effective collaboration with Resident Associations. These include:

  • Implementation of the Nairobi City County Community and Neighbourhood Associations Engagement Act, 2016.
  • Initiate public participation forums to allow for Resident Association involvement in formulation of plans and implementation frameworks.
  • Undertake proper resident’s needs assessment in order to provide commensurate solutions to development issues.
  • Organize periodical forums to address emerging development issues that need immediate attention.
  • Keenly consider any objections or opinions raised by the Resident Associations in respect to proposed developments in the City.

Kara has since signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NMS to provide a framework for collaboration on service delivery matters.
