Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) Director-General Mr. Mohammed Badi has disbanded the Nairobi City County Urban Planning Technical Committee.

In a public notice on May 16th 2020, the Director-General stated that the new pre-technical and urban planning development committees will be constituted within seven days of the notice. KARA has petitioned NMS to ensure that there is representation of Resident Associations in the new technical committee

The technical committee was under the county’s Land, Housing and Urban Planning sector and was responsible for consideration and approval of development application. The committee members included the county’s planning and technical officers.  Its other members were from Architectural Association of Kenya, Kenya Institute of Planners, Institute of Engineers in Kenya and Institute of Surveyors of Kenya.

The NMS director general also reversed his decision to suspend operations of the e-construction development application system, after holding consultations with various stakeholders. In a public notice on May 16th 2020, the director-general announced the restoration of the system, adding that applications processed through the system between March 18 and May 14 were valid even though they will be subjected to verification. This was a retraction of his earlier notice declaring them null and void.
