Kara presented a memorandum to the Nairobi City County Assembly’s Finance, Budget and Appropriations committee opposing some amendments in the Finance Bill that will lead to increment of taxes, fees and charges to the already overburdened tax payers.

Appearing before the Committee, Kara delegation led by the Chief Executive Officer Mr. Henry Ochieng said that most of the charges proposed in the Bill are punitive and unnecessary hence should be dropped. “For example, the County Government has failed to provide waste management services in most neighborhoods and majority of households in the city pay private waste collectors to manage their waste. Introducing waste management charges for the neighborhoods will therefore amount to double taxation” he said. The Committee led by the Chairman Hon. Robert Mbatia lauded Kara for sharing their views and committed to take into consideration the input contained in the memorandum. Click here for the memorandum
