The government is inching closer to operationalise the housing fund, as it seeks to make housing affordable.

The ministry of transport and housing has announced that Kenyans who are interested in benefitting from the fund can now register themselves through a portal i.e. Bomayangu.go.ke. The portal will allow the government to plan the affordable housing program based on the needs and data submitted. Registration on the bomayangu.go.ke website is free.

The first low-cost housing estate in Nairobi is under development along Park road with 1,500 units, with each unit retailing between Sh600,000 and Sh1.4 million. In September 2018, the government signed a deal with the United Nations Office for Project Services to deliver 100,000 affordable housing units.
