Kara participated in the twenty-sixth session of the Governing Council (GC26) of UN-Habitat which took place on 8th to 12th May 2017, at the United Nations Offices in Nairobi.

The session follows the adoption of the New Urban Agenda during the Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in Quito, Ecuador in October 2016. Kenya presented a position paper which focused on activities of UN-Habitat, review of the outcome of Habitat III, Dialogue on special theme of the 26th Governing Council - Habitat for the next biennium respectively. The theme of the GC26 is: Opportunities for the effective implementation of the New Urban Agenda (NUA). The NUA provides a roadmap for sustainable urban development for the next twenty (20) years. It is broad and speaks to global issues as well as to Africa’s realities and by extension Kenya.

The National Habitat Committee (NHC) to which Kara is a member played a central role in crafting Kenya’s position paper which looked at key issues of concern and proposals that will contribute towards a more effective and robust agency for human settlements and effective implementation of the NUA in the bigger frame work of sustainable urbanization and human settlements.
